FARM (Folk Alliance Region Midwest) Gathering
I'll be playing Saturday afternoon at 4:40, and very likely other times as well. It's a great, warm, friendly conference, and the public is invited for the music!
Several years ago, I played a concert for the combined Yiddish groups of Austin and San Antonio, Texas. These groups and that performance were arranged by Toni Kleinman, founder of the Austin group.
Here is an excerpt from her obituary:
"Toni" Ethyl Papermaster Kleinman, an amazing woman of the world. She passed away peacefully at home on July 4, 2008 in Austin,Texas. She was 93 years young...She was an energetic and successful businesswoman well into her 80s...Toni retired and moved to Austin in 2001 where she became very active in the seniors group at the Dell Jewish Community Center of Austin,TX starting a Yiddish study group and singing with the Delltones choir as long as her health permitted.
I am honored to reprise my Yiddish Songs and Stories concert in her memory.

That Time of Year - Sam Bass Theatre, Round Rock, TX
"That Time of the Year" is a musical revue of 25 all-original Christmas, Hanukkah and New Years songs that captures the warmth and humor of this unique, interfaith holiday season. The show offers a wide variety of material running the musical gamut, from show tunes to rock, blues and jazz. The songs, with lyrics by the ASCAP award-winning team of Laurence Holzman & Felicia Needleman, and music by seven different composers, range from funny, upbeat group numbers, highlighting the joys and anxieties of the holiday season, to beautiful, touching ballads about the meaning behind both holidays.
An evening of song with my friend, Doug Spears (Yippee! -- we've been trying to do this for a coupla years.) He's just released a new CD, and it's getting lots of attention because it's very good.
3CMSS (Third Coast Music Songwriters Showcase) I will be part of this Songwriters-In-The-Round show hosted by Jim Patton and Sherry Brokus, with other songwriters TBA. I'm very excited to be doing this as it is one of the premier songwriters showcases in Austin, and I have waited a long time to do it. Also, it is one of the few places I'm playing in town, so I'm happy to be playing for friends I already know.
The annual Invasion of the GoGirls during the SXSW Conference. A guerilla showcase, which this year I'm privileged to be part of. My set will be at noon.
An evening of Broadway tunes and stories from the 30s and 40s, shared with Fletcher Clark. Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Rodgers and Hart, Irving Berlin, and a dollop of Brecht and Weill.
I haven't been back to New York for almost a year, so I'm really looking forward to this one! Songwriters-In-The-Round with Joshua Sanders and Tisra DeWitt.
Songwriters-In-The-Round: Julie Grower (from Nashville), Annie Benjamin (from Dallas), Ken Gaines (from Houston) Bunch of furriners, but they sure do play a mean song!

Lefty's @ Austin Bergstrom International Airport
Very few other airports have a music program -- in fact, I know of none, not even in Nashville. The music on the PA is recordings of local Austin artists, and in the lounge area and several of the restaurants, local musicians make your layover time a whole lot less onerous. I will be entertaining at Lefty's Sports Bar and Grill, which is BEHIND SECURITY, and therefore only accessible to travelers.
